# DIY Events

TeamRaiser is designed to be a peer-to-peer fundraising. By default, the product assumes that there is a set public event with a specific location and time. The fundraising operation starts at a time chosen by the organization. For such standard events with date and location, the participant center & the supporter center will display event date & location to the users so they don't forget when the event happens.

Many events created by Save the Children in TeamRaiser are DIY events. That is, there is no set event or locations. Instead each user is encouraged to configure their own team to celebrate an event in their life, like a birthday or wedding.

# How DIY Events Differ

In standard TeamRaiser events, the users create teams for once central event that happens at a specific time and location. For DYI events, the code has been customized to allow users to create their own custom event, at their designated time & location.

When a user registers as a team captain for a DIY event, they will be able to set event date during registration process, edit it in the participant center, and their supporters will be able to see the event date on their personal (opens new window) and team (opens new window) pages.

When the event is set as DIY, the following changes will appear on the pages:

  • Field labels during the registration process will be updated, each instance of team will be replaced with event, notifying the users that they are creating a fundraiser for their custom event, not an event hosted by Save the Children.
  • The TeamRaiser event date is hidden in the participant center.
  • The Event Date field, when added to the event, is relocated in the participant center from the bottom of the page to the top. The label is changed, notifying the user that they are modifying the date for their custom event.
  • The Event Date field is rendered on the personal pages, letting users know of the custom event date.
  • The Event Date field is rendered on the team pages of logged in users, letting them know of the custom event date.
  • The TeamRaiser event date will not be displayed next to the event in the supporter center, as it will vary per team.
  • The image that appears next to the event in the supporter center is set to the one matching DIY category.
